Elk & Friends Glass Cups - 9.5/10

Why We love it:

  • The glass doesn’t absorb smells or odors.

  • Completely dishwasher safe.

  • The silicone sleeve helps protects against drops.

  • THEY LAST - we’ve had ours for about 3 years and are now using them with our second child.

Great For:

  • Toddlers who know to keep the cup down to successfully drink.

  • Families looking to reduce plastic.

  • Kids who already drink well from an open cup.

  • Parents who value durability and easy cleaning.

Skip If:

  • Your child frequently throws cups.

  • You need something extremely lightweight for daycare.

  • You're looking for the least expensive option.

  • You need an “on the go” option.

Is It Worth It?

  • Yes. Like I said, we’ve had ours for 3 years and are now using them with our second child. We use them every day. I love that I can throw it in the dishwasher and that they are really cute. They are a little pricier, but they are a great investment.

Munchkin Miracle 360 Cup - 9/10

Why We love it:

  • Also dishwasher safe (although I wash the silicone part by hand).

  • I think it does a great job of teaching your little one how to drink from an open cup.

  • Isn’t leakproof, but leaks are minimal.

Great For:

  • Toddlers learning to drink from an open cup.

  • Parents who aren’t measuring ounces.

Skip If:

  • Your toddler likes to throw cups.

  • You are looking to reduce plastic.

Is it worth it?

  • Yes. Learning to drink from an open cup can be challenging but this cup allows the child to stay in control of the flow while mimicking the behavior well. It isn’t a forever cup, so the price makes sense to me.

Munchkin Weighted Straw Cup - 6/10

Why We love it:

  • It’s a good first straw cup to introduce early.

  • It’s an inexpensive option to have.

  • Most parts are dishwasher safe.

Why We don’t love it:

  • The straw is really thin and can be difficult to clean.

  • The top of the cup can be difficult to screw on.

  • If you don’t screw it on right, it will spill.

  • The straw also spills liquid frequently. It literally just comes out the top like it’s trying to escape.

  • The lid also comes off if your child throws the cup.

Great for:

  • Daycare! If they have to refill it, then it’s less for you to do. We send our son with these to daycare and they can keep an extra just in case.

Skip if:

  • You have a grandparent watching your child as they may struggle with its intricacies.

  • You have low frustration tolerance.

Is it worth it?

  • If your child is in daycare, then yes. Otherwise I’d skip it.

Dr. Brown’s Weighted Straw Cup - 8/10

Why We love it:

  • It’s a good first straw cup to introduce early.

  • It’s easy to put together.

  • It has measurement marks if you’re into that.

  • It’s durable.

  • Most parts are dishwasher safe.

  • Leaks are minimal

  • Weighted straw is helpful for babies first transitioning over to straw cups.

Great For:

  • Toddlers who frequently throw.

  • On the go families.

Skip if:

  • You have a toddler who doesn’t need a weighted straw.

Is it worth it?

  • Yes. I love this cup and use it daily. This is our weighted straw cup we keep at home. Even though my son probably doesn’t need the weighted straw, the handles are very helpful and the spills are minimal.

Zak Toddler Cups - 8/10

Why We love it:

  • It’s easy to put together.

  • All parts can go in the dishwasher

  • They have fun designs for kids.

Great For:

  • Toddlers who know how to drink from a straw cup.

  • On the go families.

  • Older toddlers

Skip if:

  • It leaks, so if your toddler is going to throw it around, I’d be cautious.

Is it worth it?

  • They can be. My daughter really liked them but my son doesn’t care for them. I would use your judgement on these. If your child doesn’t have a cup they use regularly, then give it a shot. They are sometimes sold as a set, so if you are trying it out just buy one.
